My grandparents think that if they didn’t have something when they were kids, then kids today don’t need it either. I disagree with this particular idea to some extent. Maybe they are jealous of them because they didn’t have smartphone when they were kids. This is one example. Another example happened recently to me personally, I went to visit my grandparents for a few days. While I was there I was able to experience life without an air conditioner for the first time in my life. They have refused for years now to get themselves a good central cooling system. They still use the same furnace they had as my dad and uncle were children. I don’t even know if I should be calling it a furnace, it’s an antique wood burning stove in the corner of the living room. Homemade ductwork leads up in the ceiling, where the heating is dispersed through a number of vents — one air vent inside the master bedroom, and two more air vents into the upstairs bedrooms. That is the extent of their entire heating system! They also have no form of cooling system. When I asked them why, they said they didn’t have any air conditioning when they were young and didn’t need it now. But I say that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be enjoying AC now!
