The classrooms inside my high school are dreadfully hot. I think that the school is hoping to save money by never running the air conditioner, but this makes it hard to focus while sitting in class. There are no thermostats within the classrooms themselves, which means that the administrators have full authority with the temperature of the buildings. I don’t believe this is fair. I should be capable of sitting through an entire class without dripping sweat. I have filed several complaints, but I haven’t received any responses concerning the air conditioning, or lack thereof, at my school. I don’t know what else to do now because I don’t have any connections or way to catch the ear of someone who could possibly fix this terrible issue. I know several of my friends who are also students and some of our teachers have complained regarding the A/C situation as well, so I can’t be the only one who is frustrated. An HVAC system can be an essential appliance in any building, and I think that the administration should quit trying to cut corners by keeping it off. I know that everyone ought to be making a strong effort to cut down on their energy use, but allowing students to overheat in tiny classrooms is not the best way to go about doing this. May be a way to have my opinion heard is by writing a letter to the editor or school newspaper. This may trigger some other complaints that will cause the people running the school to listen to the student body.
