I used to be in a band in university. My house was the spot that every one of us practiced too. My house used to be an old beach house. That means that there are many entrances plus lots of open areas. My band would practice upstairs in what used to be a family room of sorts. It was a big space with a variety of plugs plus windows. It was perfect to have a drum set, store guitars plus plug in four amplifiers. The issue was how hot it would get in the spring and summer. The amps, electronics as well as our body heat was an intense combo. Heat also rises and every one of us could not deny that. The windows were old and they couldn’t really be opened. So every one of us had basically nothing in terms of cooling our practice area. The two of us got a few box fans and window cooling units for upstairs. The power of the window A/c was not truly impressive however. By the end of a jam hour every one of us would be covered in sweat. Also having no central A/C was not good for maintaining our equipment. The majority of us would get hot, but so would our instruments. It is not great for amplifiers or electric guitars to get overheated. The two of us actually should have invested in some type of actual A/C. However we were all only 18 years old. So calling a Heating plus A/C supplier for a/c replacement was not on the list of priorities. I still play drums now that I have grown up. The first thing I did before I played was get A/C installed in my garage. I now always have A/C to practice in.
